Should You Spin Black Market Chests ... Ever?

Fellow Pilots,
With the end of the "Black Market" season coming (Monday, April 1), we thought it might be useful to remind you of what happened the last time we waited all season without spinning chests.  The market automatically converted about 1500 keys into the rewards you see below (the one you can't see was something very small from a free spin, like a Molot or Punisher).

The result surprised us: no silver, no weapons or robots - only components and gold.  With that in mind, I'm not spinning this season either (I have about 4000 keys at the moment) and will report what happens on Monday.  The much larger amount of keys results from supply drops, so it's worth seeing how that system plays out as well.  Anecdotally, I think there are fewer tankers but I don't have solid data on which to rest that claim.

In other news, it's another Beacon Rush weekend beginning Friday.  Pixonic has not shared the relative popularity of its four modes, nor the exact plans for the introduction of "Free For All."

That's it for today, class is dismissed early.  We are working on an easy-to-follow decision making guide for Springfield and some suggestions for where one would put their first Tempest, Shocktrain, and Scourge if they get them one at a time.

Happy Wednesday!
Dr. Yat

  1. I need some advice from the experts. I recently got a Kuhimo from the supply drops and am using it now. Before using it my win rating was about 60% now it has dropped to 38% and still going down. Do you have any idea what is going on? Did I get bumped up into a new league or is this just the upgrade/braking in period? Should I replace it with my old robot or just stick it out?

    1. I'd advise sticking it out for sure. Pixonic insists that only league goes into matchmaking, but myself and many other observers think that a high win rate (above 60) triggers tougher battles until your win rate falls to 40 or so. We can't say for certain, and maybe it's just the law of large numbers (coin flips don't alternate, they go in streaks). One thing I know is that Kumiho is viable in any league once you get the hang of dashing in, wrecking shop, and dashing back out. Try it last in some games when your opponents are limping around in Lancelots. Try it with Talumbas, Orkans, and Tarans. And most importantly, play patiently, because it doesn't go toe-to-toe with shielded robots. Pick your fights. Hope this is helpful.
